The Cinque TerreThe way of Love

Hiking Trail

The well-known “Via dell'amore” is a hiking trail that is very appreciated from climbers and trekkers throughout the world. Perhaps the most famous part of the Cinque Terre, Via dell'amore is the section of the Blue Trail (the stretch that connects Riomaggiore and Monterosso) that extends for 1 km between Riomaggiore and Manarola.

The trail has a magical atmosphere: seems to be dug in the hard rock of the ligurian coast and winds along the rocky wall overhanging the sea. The history of the path of the Way of Love dates back to the beginning of the TWENTIETH century during the modernization of the railway line Genoa - La Spezia, when railway workers were in need of a path to move between Riomaggiore and Manarola during the construction of the tunnel between the two villages. Legend has it that this footpath became a meeting point for lovers of the two cities.

The Way of Love is today the most famous for tourists visiting the Cinque Terre. Today it is a pedestrian path on the flat, not suitable so much for a trip or for a pleasant walk that offers spectacular views on the cliffs, the vineyards and the sea. To access it, you need to pay an entrance ticket.

Monterosso Cinque Terre is the village's most well-known among the five municipalities of the Park of the Cinque Terre, as well as the most densely inhabited. It is located at the center of a small natural bay in the western part of the Cinque Terre. Built on the ruins of an ancient settlement of pre-roman times, the village dates back to the IX century, in the medieval era and still has monuments dating back to that time. If you love culture and history, you can't visit the cinque terre without stopping in Monterosso! Here you can find the Statue of Neptune, also known as the Giant's Statue, a imponenta reinforced-concrete structure dating from 1910, built to celebrate the well-known God of the Sea, the Aurora Tower, location of a watchtower built in the SIXTEENTH century to protect the Republic of Genoa from the attacks of the Pirates, the Church of St. John the Baptist, the Hermitage of St. Antonio of Mesco and the convent of the capuchins. If you are passionate about letturatura, you can not visit Villa Montale, the summer residence of the famous poet Eugenio Montale, Nobel Prize for Literature in 1975. How to remember her name, Monterosso al Mare is a resort well-known for the beauty of its beaches: from Punta Mesco, the mountain that closes the gulf of Monterosso, it is possible to admire the beautiful cliffs of the Cinque Terre Park, while in the beach of Fegina you can relax and enjoy a day at sea. Monterosso is also the point of arrival of the Blue Trail, hiking trail of priceless beauty. Buy your tickets now for the train to Monterosso

BEACHES

The Cinque Terre are famous all over the world for the beauty of the sea and their beaches. The most famous beach is located in Monterosso Al Mare, Fedina, which is characterized by the typical rocks of the Ligurian Riviera for being a long stretch of sandy beach. In Vernazza you can find two small beaches near the center of the village, from which you can admire the Castello dei Doria, an ancient building that dominates the whole village. In Corniglia there is the Guvano beach, one of the most beautiful in the whole region: a splendid bay, difficult to reach and directly connected with the Blue Path. If you prefer places with easier access, in Corniglia you can also find the Spiaggione di Corniglia, a sandy beach a few steps from the station. In Riomaggiore, where the "Via dell'Amore" begins, there are very suggestive beaches from which you can also set sail on a cruise through the Cinque Terre. Finally, in Campiglia, you can reach the Persico beach, an uncontaminated beach made up of pebbles. of sandstone.
